ChoreLogger is a family chore-tracking and pocket-money service operated by GECOL Pty Ltd(“ChoreLogger”, “we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it plain and short, if anything is unclear, email us at legal@chorelogger.com.
1.Information we collect
We only collect what we need to run ChoreLogger for you and your family.
- Account information.Your name, email address, and authentication credentials (handled by Clerk — see “Third-party services” below). We do not store your password.
- Child profile information. Names or nicknames, optional avatars or profile colours, age or year level, and any notes you choose to add. This information is created and managed by the parent who holds the account.
- Chore activity data. Chores you create, due dates, reward amounts, completion check-ins, parent approvals or denials, payouts, and balance history.
- Billing information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe collects and processes your payment details on our behalf. We receive only the limited data needed to manage your subscription (e.g. plan, status, last four digits of the card). We do not store full card numbers.
- Usage and device data. Pages viewed, features used, approximate location derived from IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and timestamps. Used for security and to improve the product.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Strictly necessary cookies for sign-in and session security, plus optional analytics cookies (where required by law, only with your consent).
2.How we use your information
- Provide the service. Display chores and balances, sync activity across devices, send transactional notifications.
- Process payments. Manage subscriptions, invoices, and refunds via Stripe.
- Improve and personalise. Understand how features are used so we can make ChoreLogger better.
- Communicate with you.Send service-related messages (e.g. receipts, password resets, important updates) and, where you've opted in, occasional product news. You can unsubscribe from marketing email at any time.
- Keep accounts safe. Detect fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access.
- Meet legal obligations. Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and lawful requests.
We rely on the legal bases of contract performance (to deliver the service you signed up for), our legitimate interests (improving and securing the service), your consent (for optional cookies and marketing email), and legal obligation (where required).
3.Third-party services we use
We carefully select infrastructure partners to run ChoreLogger. We do not sell your personal information to anyone. The following providers process data on our behalf under contracts that require them to keep it secure and use it only for the purposes we specify.
Manages sign-up, sign-in, password storage, and session security.
Processes subscription payments and stores payment-method details. Card numbers never reach our servers.
Serves the ChoreLogger web application and handles request logs and security telemetry.
Stores your account, family, chore, and balance data in a managed PostgreSQL database.
We may also use privacy-respecting analytics and error-monitoring tools to keep ChoreLogger running smoothly. We will update this list whenever we add or change a key processor.
4.Children's privacy
ChoreLogger is designed to be used by parents and guardians on behalf of their children.
- Parents create and manage all child profiles. The parent holding the account is the only person who can add, edit, or remove a child profile, and is responsible for the information they enter about their child.
- Children do not have independent accounts. A child may be invited by their parent to sign in to view their chores and balance, but the parent remains the account holder and data controller, and may revoke access at any time.
- We collect the minimum needed.Typically a first name or nickname and an age band. We don't need a child's last name, address, or contact details.
- We do not knowingly collect data directly from children outside of profiles managed by their parent. If you believe a child has provided us information without parental involvement, please contact us and we will delete it.
5.How long we keep information
- Active accounts. We keep your data for as long as your account is active.
- Inactive accounts. If your account is unused for 24 consecutive months, we may anonymise or delete it after giving you reasonable notice.
- Closed accounts. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where we're required to retain certain records (for example, billing and tax records).
- Backups. Encrypted backups may persist for up to 30 days after deletion before being overwritten.
6.Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you have meaningful rights over your personal information. We honour the following requests for all users, regardless of jurisdiction:
- Access. Get a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction. Ask us to fix information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Deletion. Ask us to delete your account and the personal information associated with it.
- Portability. Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Restriction and objection. Limit or object to certain processing of your information.
- Withdraw consent. Where we rely on consent (e.g. marketing email, optional analytics cookies), withdraw it at any time.
- No discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
- Lodge a complaint. You may complain to the data protection authority in your country or region. In Australia, this is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
To exercise any of these rights, email legal@chorelogger.com. We will respond within 30 days, and verify your identity before acting on requests that involve personal information.
7.Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, restricted access, and audited infrastructure partners (Clerk, Stripe, Vercel, Neon). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work hard to keep your family's data safe.
8.International data transfers
ChoreLogger is a global service. Your data may be stored or processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, Australia, and the European Union, depending on the regions used by our infrastructure providers. Where required by law, we put appropriate safeguards in place — such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms — to protect your information when it is transferred internationally.
9.Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies. Some are strictly necessary (for example, to keep you signed in and to protect against cross-site request forgery). Others are optional and are only set with your consent where required by law. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may stop parts of ChoreLogger from working.
10.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or with a prominent notice in the app before the changes take effect. The “Effective date” at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version.
11.Contact us
If you have questions about this policy, want to exercise a right, or believe we've handled your information incorrectly, contact us at legal@chorelogger.com.
